FIFA made a gaffe on Harry Kane’s weight, bringing England national team’s captain to insist he is in “fighting weight” for the upcoming World Cup in Russia.

In a mistake penned as “15-and-a-half stone”, the Tottenham Hotspur striker was revealed as one of the heaviest players when FIFA listed the 23 footballers for each of the 32 participating nations.

His weight was listed at 98kg, with only four of them heavier than the rest of 736 players who will travel to Russia this summer. The weight issue also concerned fellow English team mate Harry Maguire, who was also listed with the same weight.

Despite the worry, Harry Kane made it to a point to clear the weight concern. He stated that he is only around 89 or 90 kilos rather than what FIFA stated. “I’m normally about 89 or 90 kilos. We weigh most days when we get up and that’s normally my fighting weight,” he said.

After suffering from injuries last season, the captain assured he is 100% in perfect condition heading into the World Cup.

“I feel really good and training has been of a high intensity. Obviously everyone is fighting for places and that has pushed everyone along fitness-wise.”

Four years ago in Brazil, England wasn’t able to get out of the group stage matches. However, Kane believes the squad under Gareth Southgate’s management will do better this year.

“The main thing is to believe it can be different,” Kane expressed. “It’s been tough because for the last 50 years we haven’t won anything. We’ve got to stay focused on ourselves and not worry about the teams in the past.”

England will begin the Group G stages against Tunisia on June 18 at Volgograd Arena.
