Argentinos Juniors had enough to overcome Estudiantes Merida from Venezuela thanks to a 2-1 aggregate result, in spite of having lost 1-0 away in the return leg. In fact, that defeat was the team’s only slump in their last eight competitive games as they won three and drew four. Last Sunday, El Bicho settled for a scoreless stalemate with Boca Juniors at home in the first leg of the Superliga Cup’s semi-finals. Therefore, Argentinos are on five matches unbeaten at Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, having booked three successes and two draws in that spell.
Meanwhile, Deportes Tolima was transferred to the Copa Sudamericana as they ended up in the third spot of the Copa Libertadores’ group G (having drawn at Jorge Wilstermann in Bolivia 2-2 two weeks ago). The team drew 1-1 at Junior last Sunday: Tolima are amongst the eight squads who remain alive in the Colombian league and they are leading the Group A table on five points in this stage (three rounds played and three to go), which means they would advance to the Torneo Apertura’s final. They haven’t lost any of their last four games in all competitions, winning two and drawing two. Alberto Gamero’s men also claimed seven points from the last nine available on the road.
These are two interesting squads, but Deportes Tolima is missing some important players in Marco Perez, Gordillo and Roble so I expect Argentinos to take advantage of this.
