Gremio suffered a single defeat (2-0 to Palmeiras in June) in their last 23 home matches, with 15 victories in that span.
Estudiantes’ young squad were able to overcome defending champions Gremio 2-1 thanks to goals from Francisco Apaolaza and Gaston Campi and El Pincha (four times champions in the Copa Libertadores) will advance to the quarter-finals if they avoid the defeat in Porto Alegre. Last Friday, coach Leandro Benitez rotated his players and the team lost to Belgrano 2-1 away, which means they remain on three points in as many weeks. Estudiantes have been weak on the road lately, earning just two points in their last six away games since beating Patronato 1-0 in April.
Estudiantes will be tough to beat, but I think Gremio have what it takes to win at home and advance to the quarter-finals.
