Racing Club vs Sao Paulo
Racing Club managed an important victory last Thursday, when beating Peruvian side Sporting Cristal 2-1 at home thanks to goals from Juan Caceres and Tomas Chancalay. They are on four points in second spot in group E, trailing leaders Sao Paulo by two. On Sunday, the team succumbed to a heartbreaking 1-0 away defeat at CA Central Cordoba, which prevented them from climbing into the playoff zone in group A (they are now sixth-placed on 18 points, trailing River Plate in fourth by goal difference). That defeat also stopped their three-game unbeaten streak of two wins and one draw. On a positive note, La Academia won the last three at home.
Meanwhile, Sao Paulo are going through an impressive run. The team are leading group E on six points, having beaten Uruguayan squad Rentistas 2-0 at home, with Pablo and Reinaldo netting the back of the net. On Sunday, a rotated XI earned a 2-2 away draw in the derby at Corinthians to make it nine matches without defeat in all competitions (eight victories and one stalemate). Four of those were on the road, having taken ten points in the process. Speaking of the Sao Paulo State Championship, Hernan Crespo’s men took 26 points from 33 on offer to open a 11-point gap over second-placed Ferroviaria in group B.
Sao Paulo is definitely better than this Racing that will change coach very soon if rumors from the press are true.
