Racing vs Independiente

Racing Club comes to the city derby after a disappointing 1-1 away draw at Sarmiento as they dominated the game for most of the time. Having lost only one of their last four league matches (two wins and one stalemate), La Academia made it ten points in the Liga Profesional to continue at the top of the 2022 aggregate table (of course, qualifying for the next Copa Libertadores so far). Fernando Gago’s men have been unbeaten in their last 13 home matches in domestic action, having claimed ten victories and three draws since losing to Colon 2-1 in November.

Independiente are facing a rough crisis at the moment. Last Monday, the team suffered a 3-1 home defeat to Platense even though they had taken the first lead, which means the team lost three of their last four league games (winning only once in that spell). As a result, El Rojo remain on seven points in six matches in the Liga Profesional and continue out of the fight for a continental ticket for next season. On away turf, Independiente are winless in their last six domestic matches, drawing two and losing four since beating Barracas Central 1-0 on April 1st.

Big derby and there’s a clear favorite here: Racing has improved lately despite last week’s draw, and should be able to beat this Independiente that is going to lose their coach soon.
