Racing – Sarmiento

After their big success in the Avellaneda derby, Racing Club deflated their performance last time out. On Friday, they had to settle for a scoreless away draw at Platense in a boring match. However, Gustavo Costas’ men remain occupying one of the playoff spots in group B after losing only one of their last seven Copa Liga Profesional matches (winning four and drawing two to make it 14 points).

Sarmiento are the worst team in the league at the moment. Last Saturday, coach Israel Damonte played the first league game of his second spell at the club with a 2-1 home defeat to Union Santa Fe despite having taken the first lead. As a result, El Verde made it ten league matches without a win (four stalemates and six defeats) and remain bottom-placed in the aggregate table, accumulating just three points in eight Copa Liga Profesional encounters this term. To make matters worse, Sarmiento earned only two points across the last five games as the visiting side.

Racing, one of the strongest teams in the league, will play at home against the worst, Sarmiento, who are still winless and they have the worst defense with 14 goals conceded in 8 games plus they were eliminated from Copa Argentina last week against a 2nd division team. Can’t see how Racing can not win here and get closer to secure a playoff spot.
