Boca vs Gimnasia
Boca Juniors lifted their second consecutive league title on January 17th, when beating Banfield on penalties after a 1-1 draw on a neutral ground in San Juan. It was their eighth consecutive domestic match without defeat, having won three and drawn five in regular time since losing to Lanus 2-1 at home in November. Four of those games took place at Estadio La Bombonera, with the hosts claiming two victories and two draws. Coach Miguel Angel Russo welcomes Marcos Rojo (who arrives from Manchester United, England) who is still regaining his match fitness.
Gimnasia LP will have to make a decent campaign in order to improve their points average ahead of the 2022 relegation table. Last term, they produced an irregular performance, having won a single game across the last four (one draw and two defeats) following their 1-0 home loss to Atletico Tucuman in the last round. On a positive note, they took ten points from the last 15 on offer on away turf. Coach Mariano Messera has been confirmed after his interim spell.
Even though Gimnasia comes from a decent season, I have to expect the defending champions to start their campaign with a win at home.
