Independiente vs Banfield
Independiente fans will have felt disappointed after the team’s 2-2 home draw against Barracas Central in an entertaining game last Wednesday as that result means El Rojo are now winless in their last three league games, drawing one and losing two in that spell. As a result, they continue producing a terrible campaign, accumulating 31 points in 25 matches and already out of the fight for the continental tickets. On a positive note, Independiente succumbed to a single defeat across their last six matches at Estadio Libertadores de America, having won two and drawn three of those.
Coach Javier Sanguinetti started his second spell at Banfield in the best possible way: his team secured a much-needed 1-0 away success at Aldosivi thanks to a strike from Gregorio Tanco in the first half. Therefore, El Taladro put an end to their five-game winless streak of one draw and four defeats in the Liga Profesional, which allowed them to accumulate 29 points in 25 games. They are out of the fight for the continental tickets, but still need to improve their point-average to escape from relegation threats in 2023.
Independientes is definitely not a reliable team but they will have Lucas Romero and Leandro Fernandez, their best striker, back after a few rounds and that should improve them against this also irregular Banfield.
