Estudiantes vs Talleres
Estudiantes secured an important point on their visit to San Lorenzo following a scoreless draw last Sunday even though coach Ricardo Zielinski decided to field an alternative XI. However, El Pincha are now on three league games without a win, drawing two and losing one since beating Barracas Central 3-1 at home in July. The team are producing an irregular campaign in the Liga Profesional, accumulating 13 points, but they remain occupying one of the Copa Sudamericana spots in the aggregate table. At home, Estudiantes registered two victories, three draws and one loss in this competition.
After a terrible start, Talleres are starting to improve. Last weekend, the team beat Argentinos Juniors 2-0 at home thanks to goals from Rodrigo Garro and Jose Romero. As a result, La T made it three league games unbeaten (two victories and one draw) to make it 12 points in the Liga Profesional (with one game in hand) and climb out of the bottom place in the aggregate table, leapfrogging Lanus. On a sorry note, Pedro Caixinha’s men are winless on the road in 2022 in league action, having drawn four and lost eight so far.
Both were eliminated midweek from Copa Libertadores Quarterfinals in a heartbreaking way with late goals, but I can see Estudiantes rebounding better from that loss, especially at home where they are usually strong.
