Velez vs Gimnasia
Velez Sarsfield continue to struggle in the league. Last weekend, coach Alexander Medina fielded an alternative XI and his team suffered a 2-1 away defeat at Union Santa Fe. That result extended their winless streak to eight league games (five draws and three losses): El Fortin accumulated only nine points in 12 matches in the Liga Profesional, a poor campaign for them. At home, Velez have been without a win in the last three in domestic action, drawing two and losing one since beating Rosario Central 2-0 in round four.
Gimnasia LP continue to improve game after game. In round 12, they showed an interesting performance to beat Godoy Cruz 2-0 at home thanks to goals from Brahian Aleman and Nicolas Contin. El Lobo made it three wins in a row in the Liga Profesional to accumulate 24 points in the Liga Profesional, occupying the second place and trailing leaders Atletico Tucuman by one. Furthermore, Nestor Gorosito’s men climbed into second spot in the aggregate table, holding onto their Copa Libertadores berth.
Velez advanced on Wednesday to Copa Libertadores semifinales for the first time in a decade, but in the league it’s a completely different story as they keep struggling and should have problems against this very focused Gimnasia.
