Atletico Tucuman – Sarmiento

Atletico Tucuman continue to improve under coach Lucas Pusineri’s tutelage. Last time out, the team beat Aldosivi 1-0 away thanks to a strike from Ramiro Ruiz Rodriguez in the first half. After a terrible first semester of the year, El Decano are now Liga Profesional leaders on 16 points (alongside Godoy Cruz, Newell’s Old Boys and Argentinos Juniors) and also are on 11 league matches unbeaten overall (winning five, drawing six and not conceding in the last three).

Sarmiento put an end to their three-match winless streak of two draws and one defeat last Friday, when they found it easy to beat Defensa y Justicia 2-0 at home, with Sergio Quiroga and Javier Toledo scoring. Israel Damonte’s men made it 11 points in eight rounds in the Liga Profesional and, while escaping the relegation spots, they continue fighting for a Copa Sudamericana ticket in 2023. On a sorry note, El Verde are on six away games without a win, drawing two and losing four since beating Gimnasia LP in April. Lisandro Lopez had to be replaced against Defensa y Justicia with muscle issues and will miss out.

Atletico Tucuman found a new life under coach Pusineri and I expect them to beat Sarmiento, who will miss their top striker Lisandro Lopez.
