World Cup 2018: England Announces Its 23-Man Squad

England’s football manager Gareth Southgate has announced the national team’s 23-man line-up for the World Cup next month. He also named five footballers who will be on stand-by.

Popular names and long-time players Jack Wilshere (midfielder) and Joe Hart (goalkeeper) were not included in the list of names going to Russia. Southgate already informed them personally earlier in the week.

Because of leaks connected to the list, Southgate selected a young squad with the hopes of getting into Euro 2020 and World Cup 2022. Despite the squad being on the younger end of the spectrum, England’s manager did not include the emerging under-21s.

England’s first match is against Tunisia on June 18.
