Former Arsenal team captain and current assistant coach of Man City, Mikel Arteta is being considered a strong favorite as Arsene Wenger’s replacement.
On May 6th, former Gunner’s manager bid goodbye to his team of almost 22 years as he transitions to retirement. With no final word yet on the Wenger’s successor, Arteta is seen to be one of the top choices.
It is still too early to tell, but Arteta might already be thinking of his coaching staff. It is unclear is Steve Bould, current assistant manager of the Gunners, would stay if Arteta will be chosen, as they do not always agree with each other when they are both still in Arsenal.
The club is still in the process of picking possible successors, including Juventus manager Max Allegri. However, Allegri prefers majority of control over budgets and recruitment. Unfortunately, this does not harmonize with the Gunner’s chief executive Ivan Gazidis’ idea of what they’re looking for in a manager.
With Gazidis’ vision, the next ideal candidate would be Arteta, as he is looking forward to be a head coach.
Arteta played for the Gunners from 2011 to 2016 during his Premier League playing career. He is under the guidance of Pep Guardiola, manager of Manchester City, who said he will not stand in the way of Arteta if he will return to Arsenal.
