Velez Sarsfield saw their four-game winning run coming to an end last weekend, when they lost to Defensa y Justicia 1-0 at home. The team wasted several goalscoring opportunities and ended up succumbing to an unlucky defeat. As a result, El Fortin remain on 13 points in the league table. It also represented their first loss at their own stadium, where Velez had claimed two victories and one draw beforehand. All Velez Sarsfield’s regulars are at Gabriel Heinze’s disposal to host Independiente on Sunday.
Independiente are starting to improve after living a mini crisis. Last time out, Sebastian Beccacece’s men beat Talleres 3-2 at home to make it three matches unbeaten in the Superliga (one draw and two consecutive wins). Therefore, El Rojo are now on 13 points, five behind leaders, and they have one game in hand. Six of those points were collected on the road, where Independiente registered two wins and two losses.
I have to go with goals again in a Velez match. Last week it was unbelievable how their game had only 1 goal, but now with an improved Independiente as a rival we should have an even more open game.
