Boca Juniors will have to struggle to qualify for the Copa Libertadores’ final. Three weeks ago, they succumbed to a 2-0 away defeat at River Plate and will need to produce a comeback at home. Last Friday, an alternative XI lost 1-0 at home to Racing Club, which represented El Xeneize’s first league defeat this term. However, they remain at the top of the league table (along with Argentinos Juniors with 21 points in ten weeks. Boca won only one of their last four competitive matches (one draw, two losses) and the aforementioned loss to Racing stopped a 14-game unbeaten home run (ten wins, four draws).
Thanks to goals from Rafael Borre and Ignacio Fernandez, River Plate took a big step towards their third Copa Libertadores’ final in five editions. The team will advance even losing by one goal at arch-rivals Boca Juniors. On Friday, coach Marcelo Gallardo rotated his players and the team drew 3-3 at Sarandi Arsenal, which means they are now sixth-placed in the Superliga on 18 points, three behind leaders. El Millonario are unbeaten in their last five competitive games (four wins in that spell) and haven’t lost any of their last seven away matches (three victories, four draws).
River Plate are the better side at the moment and Boca will have to take risks to advance, so I definitely can see goals here.
