Racing – Sarmiento

After its great success in the Avellaneda derby, Racing Club did not play so well on the last date. On Friday they had to settle for a goalless draw against Platense in a boring match. However, Gustavo Costas’ men still occupy one of the playoff spots in Group B after losing just one of their last seven Professional League Cup games (winning four and drawing two for a total of 14 points).

Sarmiento is the worst team in the league right now. Last Saturday, coach Israel Damonte played the first league game of his second spell at the club with a 2-1 home loss to Unión Santa Fe despite having taken the first lead. As a result, El Verde has ten league games without a win (four draws and six losses) and remains in last place in the global table, accumulating only three points in eight Professional League Cup games this season. To make matters worse, Sarmiento earned just two points in the last five road games.

Racing, one of the strongest teams in the league, will play at home against the worst, Sarmiento, who has not yet won and has the worst defense with 14 goals conceded in 8 games, and was also eliminated from the Argentine Cup last week against a second division team. I don’t see how Racing can’t win here and get closer to securing a playoff spot.
