After two consecutive league defeats, Belgrano beat Godoy Cruz 1-0 at home thanks to a goal from Mauricio Cuero in the second half, but they still got relegated after eight years in the First Division following an uninspiring campaign. El Pirata collected only four victories and 24 points this term.
Lanus couldn’t secure their Copa Sudamericana ticket via the league after being thrashed at Velez Sarsfield 4-0 last weekend. They ended up league season in 11th on 34 points, having claimed only a single victory in the last four Superliga games (along with one draw and two defeats).
Belgrano was relegated last week, their coach resigned, and I can’t imagine them really interested in this cup while it’s the opposite for Lanus who could see this match as an opportunity to redeem themselves of a poor season. These two teams met just a couple of weeks ago and Lanus won 3-1, so a similar scenario could happen here.
