That perfect run in 2020 allowed the team to stay as league leaders on 45 points, ties with arch-rivals Boca Juniors but with one game less played. At home, they managed to beat CA Central Cordoba and Banfield in Superliga action this year. River Plate striker Rafael Borre saw his fifth yellow card at Estudiantes and is suspended.
Defensa y Justicia extended their unbeaten run to eight league matches (five victories and three draws) last Monday when they beat Rosario Central 3-0 at home. Following that streak, El Halcon climbed into the Copa Sudamericana zone on 32 points. Defensa holds the fourth-best away record in the Superliga following five victories, two draws and three losses.
Defensa has been super solid lately and even though River is clearly the better team here and they need to win to keep their distance above Boca before the last round, they could struggle and the handicap looks too big.
