Gimnasia LP remains occupying one of the drop spots after the first round, four points behind Rosario Central and Newell’s who are level at the final relegation place. However, the 1-1 away draw at Lanus is good news for the team as they were dominated for most of the time in the Superliga debut. El Lobo is on three winless matches among the league and the Superliga Cup, drawing two and losing the other. At home, Gimnasia claimed four victories in their last six games, losing the other two.
With an alternative XI, San Lorenzo started the new season beating Godoy Cruz 3-2 at home in a thrilling game thanks to a penalty netted by Nicolas Blandi in stoppage time. That victory allowed El Ciclon to break a seven-game winless run of six draws and one defeat (considering the Superliga and the league cup). On away turf, they are winless in the last four in domestic competitions, drawing three and losing one. On Wednesday 31, San Lorenzo lost 2-1 at Cerro Porteno in Paraguay in the return leg of the Copa Libertadores’ round-of-16 and was knocked out of the competition.
This is a different San Lorenzo from last season, much more offensive under new coach Juan Antonio Pizzi and they also risk in defense a lot more as shown in their last 2 games where they conceded 4 goals in total, so I have to go with this very short OVER line.
