Union Santa Fe had to settle for a 1-1 away draw at San Martin Tucuman (playing with an alternative XI) after conceding in stoppage time and they just need to keep a clean sheet to go forward in the competition. Last Wednesday, they lost on penalties after a 2-0 away loss at Independiente del Valle in Ecuador, which means they were knocked out of the Copa Sudamericana.
Lucas Acevedo’s goal in the 92nd minute allowed San Martin de Tucuman to earn a 1-1 home draw against Union Santa Fe last weekend. The team are already relegated and claimed a single victory in 14 matches, drawing six and losing seven. On away turf, San Martin registered only one success in 2019 (over Huracan 3-1), along with two stalemates and two losses. San Martin Tucuman boss Ricardo Caruso Lombardi is still without strikers Ramiro Costa and Luciano Pons, who continue to recover from their respective injuries.
Union has a long trip back from Ecuador where they were eliminated of Copa Sudamericana, but they are still the better team here and they will be facing a San Martin team that will miss many players as they are already thinking of rebuilding for next season in Nacional B league.
