Defensa y Justicia made their debut in the Superliga Cup with a 1-0 away defeat at Gimnasia LP last Monday, and they will need to win at home if they want to advance to next round. El Halcon, who performed greatly and ended up in second of the league table, are now getting worse, having claimed a single victory in the last five games (drawing two and losing two), over third-tier club Gimnasia y Tiro 1-0.
Gimnasia LP is improving under boss Dario Ortiz. Last Monday, they beat Defensa y Justicia 1-0 at home thanks to a goal from Santiago Silva, which means the team lost a single game of the last seven (four victories and two draws in regular time). Furthermore, El Lobo won their last away game (3-1 at Newell’s Old Boys two weeks ago) to stop a nine-game winless streak of two draws and seven defeats on the road.
Defensa y Justicia has slowed down lately after finishing the league in 2nd place while Gimnasia, on the other hand, looks motivated and improving. They need to hold to a draw to advance and I think they can do it.
