Gimnasia vs Argentinos Juniors

Coach Pedro Troglio had a promising start in his third spell at Gimnasia LP: the team reached the Copa Argentina’s round-of-16 by beating Sportivo Belgrano (from the third level) and Olimpo (B Nacional). In the league, they will need to improve the last campaign, when they ended in 23th: El Lobo begins the new season just four points above the relegation zone. Gimnasia’s 2-0 home victory over Newell’s Old Boys in the past season’s last round stopped a nine-game winless run, which included four games at their own stadium.

Argentinos Juniors made a remarkable campaign on their return to the Superliga and were close to qualifying for the next Copa Sudamericana. However, they ended the league season with three winless games and having claimed a single away victory in the last seven – but that success was at Gimnasia, 3-1 in May. Argentinos advanced to the Copa Argentina round-of-16 on Sunday, when they won on penalties against Defensa y Justicia.

Argentinos are the better side in my opinion, but they find trouble when it comes to away matches. Besides, Gimnasia is improving lately and they should be improved in attack where they’ve added veteran striker Santiago Silva among other players. It’s the start of the season, teams usually play more open as there is less to worry about so I like the chance of having goals here.
