Independiente del Valle suffered a heavy blow on their visit to Union Santa Fe three weeks ago, losing 2-0. It was their only defeat in the last nine competitive matches as they claimed seven victories and one draw. The team won 2-1 at home over Universidad Catolica last Wednesday to remain at the top of the Ecuadorian league table on 22 points, three above second-placed Delfin. Independiente del Valle managed 13 points from the last 15 available playings as hosts.
Their 2-0 home victory on March 20th means Union Santa Fe is close to advancing to the Copa Sudamericana’s round-of-32. Last Saturday, coach Leonardo Madelon fielded a completely alternative XI and the team drew 1-1 away at San Martin Tucuman in the first leg of the Superliga Cup’s first round. Therefore, El Tatengue is on six games unbeaten in all competitions, winning two and drawing four. On away turf, they haven’t lost any of the last four, with one success and three stalemates.
Two teams in good shape will clash on Wednesday, Union will definitely try to slow things down to avoid having troubles with the altitude of Quito factor so I expect a tight game.
