River Plate succumbed to a heavy blow last Wednesday when a completely alternative XI suffered a 3-0 away defeat at Liga Deportiva Universitaria from Ecuador. On Saturday, they drew 1-1 away at Atletico Tucuman and were leapfrogged at the top of the Argentine league table by Boca Juniors in the last round. Therefore, El Millonario is on three winless games in all competitions (two draws and one defeat). However, they managed seven points from the last nine available at Estadio Monumental.
Deportivo Binacional is living a dream. They played their first Copa Libertadores’ game in history last Thursday when beating Brazilian giants Sao Paulo 2-1 at home. On Sunday, defending league champions also won 3-1 as hosts over Sports Boys Warnes to make it 13 points in six rounds (three behind current leaders Alianza Universidad). Binacional is on five matches without defeat in all competitions, winning four and drawing one, and they also are unbeaten on away turf in 2020, registering two victories and one draw.
River is definitely the best team here but they could be hurt after losing the championship in the last round, and the handicap looks too big.
