Velez Sarsfield was able to beat Lanus 2-1 on away turf last weekend, with young playmaker Thiago Almada scoring the winner, and they have a clear chance of advancing to the quarter-finals. The team won three of their last four games, only losing to Independiente in the process.
Lanus will have to put up a good fight if they want to advance to next round following their 2-1 home defeat to Velez Sarsfield, especially if we consider that the side lost three of their last four matches, only beating relegated side Belgrano in that span. To make matters worse, El Granate also lost four of their last five games on the road (only beating San Martin Tucuman in that time), including the last three. Lanus coach Luis Zubeldia will be missing Rolando Garcia as the centre back saw a red card against Velez Sarsfield last weekend.
This two teams met twice in the last month, both resulting in Velez wins 4-0 and 2-1. This time Velez doesn’t need to win to advance but I have to go with the over as they are both very good attacking teams and the line and odds are definitely worth it.
