Atletico Tucuman vs Tigre

Atletico Tucuman climbed into the third spot of the Superliga table on eight points after their 2-1 victory away at Newell’s Old Boys last time out, having to turn the result around. That result also allowed El Decano to open a six-point gap over San Martin SJ, who are occupying the final relegation spot. Atletico also claimed four points in two home games this season. Last Saturday, Ricardo Zielinski’s men faced Newell’s again, losing on penalties after a scoreless draw, and were knocked out of the Copa Argentina in the round-of-16.

Even though Tigre are facing a tough task to keep their Superliga status, they will certainly fight for it. Having started the league season with three consecutive draws, Cristian Ledesma’s men managed their first win by beating Aldosivi 2-0 away, scoring twice in the first six minutes of the game. El Matador had drawn 2-2 with Colon in their previous away game in week two. Even after this good start with six points in four games, Tigre is still 11 points behind Belgrano, who is now the first safe team in the point-average table.

Atletico Tucuman plays their most important game ever next Tuesday when they will host Gremio from Brazil in the Copa Libertadores Quarterfinals but they still need to keep an eye on the league where they are in relegation danger. Tigre has no other thing to do but risk and go for the 3 points in every game considering they are still way behind Belgrano in the relegations table, so I expect an open game here.
