Velez vs Tigre

After three league matches without a success (two draws, one loss), Velez Sarsfield was able to return to winning ways last time out, by beating Godoy Cruz 2-0 away. Thanks to goals from Leandro Fernandez and Lucas Robertone, El Fortin remain in the sixth spot on 33 points, three behind the last Copa Libertadores berth. Velez produced a remarkable home campaign this season, with six wins, three draws and a single defeat.

Coach Nestor Gorosito’s arrival has certainly resulted in an improvement for Tigre. Last time out, the team celebrated a dramatic 2-1 home win over relegation contenders Patronato, which means they are on three games unbeaten, having won the last two under the new boss. With 25 points in the league table, El Matador still clings to their dream of staying in the Superliga (they are now seven points from safety). Tigre managed 11 away points this term, following three successes, two draws and five defeats. On Thursday, they played against third-tier squad Estudiantes Buenos Aires in the Copa Argentina’s first round, losing 3-0.

Tigre is improving but Velez Sarsfield is definitely the better team here and they should get the 3 points.
