Gimnasia LP claimed a much-needed win last weekend when beating Colon 3-2 at home. They will certainly be involved in a relegation struggle next season after collecting 29 points this term. El Lobo is on three consecutive league games without defeat, winning two and drawing one. Gimnasia won four of their five home matches in 2019, only losing to second-placed Defensa y Justicia.
Newell’s Old Boys earned a valuable 1-1 draw on their visit to Banfield thanks to a goal from Teodoro Paredes in the 69th minute. Therefore, La Lepra ended up a season in 15th on 29 points, having claimed a single win in the last five Superliga matches (with one draw and three defeats in the process). Newell’s are on five winless games on away turf, drawing three and losing two.
The first leg of the first stage of this new league cup that has a Copa Libertadores place for the champion as the main prize and since it’s the 1st leg I expect a tight game here with both teams not risking much. They met just a few weeks ago and Gimnasia won in the last minute 1-0 after a balanced game, so this could be a similar scenario.
