After two back-to-back wins in the league, Defensa y Justicia suffered their first away defeat in the whole season last time out, when they were beaten by Patronato 2-0 in Parana. That means they remain on 51 points, trailing leaders Racing Club by four. However, El Halcon would have a shot in their fight for the title if the side is able to shorten that gap this weekend as both teams are set to clash in the last round. Defensa suffered a single home loss this term (to Boca Juniors 1-0), registering seven victories and three draws.
Union Santa Fe climbed into the seventh spot of the league table on 34 points following a convincing 3-0 home victory over Lanus two weeks ago, with striker Franco Troyansky scoring twice. El Tatengue suffered a single defeat in their last five league matches, winning three and drawing one. Afterwards, they also beat Independiente del Valle from Ecuador 2-0 at home in the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana’s first round. Heading back to the league, Union registered decent results on the road in 2019: two wins, two draws and one defeat.
Defensa y Justicia comes from the very unexpected defeat at Patronato and is now in a must-win situation against Union, a really hard team to beat that wants points to secure a Copa Sudamericana 2020 spot. I think this will be the end of Defensa’s title chances because they won’t be able to defeat Union.
