Banfield vs Independiente

Banfield three-game unbeaten run in the Superliga (two wins, one draw) came to an end last Monday when the team succumbed to a 3-0 away defeat at Huracan. Everything went bad for them since striker Dario Cvitanich missed a penalty in the first half. El Taladro remains on seven points in the league table, but they have been perfect at Florencio Sola Stadium so far, having beaten Gimnasia LP and Patronato (both 1-0).

Even though coach Ariel Holan fielded an alternative XI, Independiente managed a valuable 3-0 home victory over Colon last weekend, with striker Emmanuel Gigliotti netting a brace. It was their first success in the Superliga and the side reached five points with a match in hand. Independiente drew with Newell’s Old Boys and Estudiantes (both 2-2) on away turf since the new league season started. On Wednesday, El Rojo hosted River Plate in the first leg of the Copa Libertadores’ quarter-finals and they drew 0-0.

Banfield will have attacking midfielder Nicolas Bertolo back from an injury and that should give them a boost in offense. Independiente could be a bit tired after their midweek game, but they are still a solid offensive team and 3 out of 4 matches in the Superliga had at least 3 goals so again I have to go with the low totals line.
