Arsene Wenger Bids Goodbye to Arsenal after 22 Years

For almost 22 years, the Frenchman has managed and supported Arsenal in all its victories and defeats in the Premier League.

On May 6th, Arsenal made a triumphant win as they hammered Burnley with a score of 5-0. The victory was deemed as a proper send-off for the Gunners manager of more than two decades, Arsene Wenger.

For the final moment, the boss led the team at the Emirates Stadium as they hosted Burnley. This secured the team the 6th position with only two games remaining.

Nothing has been said about his replacement yet, but Wenger expressed in his speech to support the team and to “…keep faith in what the club is doing,” even after his absence. He didn’t want to be part of the decision-making for the next manager, but he expressed “I just think he inherits a team that is much better than people think it is. I’m convinced there is a great togetherness in the team, it’s special. With the right conditions this will challenge next season.”

An emotional Arsenal manager, who piloted Arsenal into three Premier League titles and seven FA Cups, added, “I wanted to make people happy because I have a certain idea of how football is to be played.”

The entire stadium, players, staff, and former Arsenal footballers such as William Gallas, Sol Campbell, Jens Lehmann, and Robert Pires, paid their tribute to the Legend.

Pat Rice, Wenger’s former assistant, and Bob Wilson, former Gunner goalkeeper, awarded the 68-year old coach of their commemorative gold Premier League trophy. This trophy was presented to Arsenal during their “Invincible” winning season in 2003-04.

Wilson expressed in his speech that the Frenchman changed the face of football in England and introduced his former teacher, “This is Arsene Wenger, the greatest manager we have ever had.”

It was a tough and emotional night for the Gunners and Arsenal fans, but much love was given to the long-standing coach. Chants of “There’s only one Arsene Wenger” can be seen and heard in the stadium, while the club handed out red shirts with the simple message in French, “Merci Arsene”.

“Thank you for having me for such a long time. I know that is not easy but above all I am like you – I am an Arsenal fan,” the boss and the legend has said one final time.
