Rosario Central vs San LorenzoÂ
Rosario Central needs to win on Wednesday to keep their hope alive following their unbelievable 1-0 away defeat to 12 de Octubre at Sol de America last week. On Sunday, Cristian Gonzalez’s men succumbed to their second consecutive defeat in all competitions, losing to Estudiantes 1-0 at home (which stopped an eight-game unbeaten run of five victories and three draws at Estadio Gigante de Arroyito). That loss prevented them from approaching the playoff spots in group A: El Canalla remain on 15 points, trailing Wednesday’s opponents (who are sitting in fourth) by three.
San Lorenzo also succumbed to an unexpected slump in their debut in this competition. Last Wednesday, Diego Dabove’s men produced an unexpected performance and lost 1-0 at home to Chilean side Huachipato, which means they will need to seek a victory in Rosario to keep it close in the Copa Sudamericana’s group A. On Sunday, the team got back on track and beat River Plate 2-1 away to stay inside the playoff zone in the Copa Liga Profesional. That victory also broke a three-game winless run of two draws and one defeat in all competitions and made it six without defeat on away turf (three wins, three stalemates).
Both will rotate their starters due to their upcoming important league games, but it should be Rosario Central the one with the biggest problems considering next weekend they are playing the big Rosario derby against Newell’s. San Lorenzo has a bigger squad and they come from beating River Plate so the mood is high.
