Independiente vs City Torque
Independiente took the first step towards the Copa Sudamericana’s round-of-16 last Wednesday, when beating Guabira 3-1 with a rotated XI thanks to a hat-trick from Jonathan Herrera. On Saturday, Julio Cesar Falcioni’s men drew 0-0 away at Union Santa Fe, which allowed them to occupy the last playoff spot in group B on 17 points, one above fifth-placed Lanus. El Rojo are on three matches unbeaten in all competitions, winning two and drawing one. At home, they took ten points from the last 12 on offer.
After knocking out CA Fenix in the preliminary round, Montevideo City Torque managed a 1-1 draw against Bahia to open up the group stage playing as hosts at Montevideo Wanderers. Uruguayan league has not yet started, so the team is still waiting to begin their second season in the top flight after finishing in fourth spot in the aggregate table in 2020. Torque have been unbeaten in their last four games in all competitions, winning two and drawing two. They also won seven and drew three of the last 11 on the road, only losing to Liverpool 4-1 in March.
Good win for Independiente last week in the first game of this competition and they should continue like this against this small uruguayan team that is debuting in this competition.
