Palestino vs Newell’s
Palestino are yet to earn points in the Copa Sudamericana after losing 1-0 to Atletico Goianiense at home last Thursday. Therefore, they are bottom in group F and will need to win on Tuesday to keep their hope alive. Last weekend, the side were bye in the Chilean league. Having had one of their games postponed, Palestino took only four points in as many matches in domestic action so far, occupying the penultimate spot in the league table. They won only two of their last ten matches, drawing three and losing five. At home, the team won one of the last five, along with two stalemates and two defeats.
Newell’s Old Boys will also face a tough task after earning a single point in the first two rounds. Last Thursday, boss German Burgos fielded an alternative XI and the team ended up losing to Paraguay’s Libertad 3-1 at home. On Sunday, La Lepra were thrashed 3-0 at Rosario Central in the city derby to remain on ten points after the first ten rounds in league action (occupying the penultimate spot in group B). Newell’s are on four games without a win in all competitions (one draw and three consecutive defeats). On away turf, they took a single point from the last nine on offer since beating Lanus 3-1 in April.
Palestino is probably not exactly a good team but Newell’s just lost the huge derby against Rosario Central 0-3 48 hrs ago and I can’t imagine that they will be ready for this game.
