Barcelona vs Boca Juniors
Barcelona SC had an excellent start in the Copa Libertadores. Last Wednesday, they thrashed Bolivia’s The Strongest 4-0 at home to remain as group C leaders on six points. On Saturday, a rotated XI beat Delfin 2-1 at home to make it five games unbeaten in all competitions (four victories and one draw). The team are second-placed in the Ecuadorian league after ten rounds, accumulating 21 points and trailing leaders Emelec by two. Barcelona also hold a 15-match unbeaten run at home (11 successes and four draws since losing to Brazil’s Flamengo 2-1 in September 2020).
Boca Juniors also took all six points in the first two rounds in group C. Last Tuesday, they claimed an easy 2-0 home success over Santos from Brazil, with Carlos Tevez and Sebastian Villa finding the back of the net. On Sunday, the team managed an important 1-0 home success over Lanus to clinch their playoff berth in the Copa Liga Profesional (sitting in second spot in group B on 22 points, six behind leaders Velez Sarsfield). Overall, El Xeneize are on five consecutive victories in all competitions (two of them on away turf over Huracan and The Strongest from Bolivia).
Too many consecutives wins for Boca considering they are not playing well, and this trip to Ecuador could be challenging as they should be tired of so many consecutive games and they will be more than happy with a draw.
