Independiente del Valle is close to advancing to their second continental final in history following a surprising 2-0 away victory at Corinthians last Wednesday. Last weekend, the team had their away game at Olmedo postponed, which means they are now sitting in the fourth spot of the Ecuadorian league table on 48 points in 25 matches. The team won five of their last six competitive matches, losing only once in that span. At home, they lost their last game to Macara, having won the previous two.
Corinthians have now a mountain to climb after a disappointing performance against Independiente del Valle at home, losing 2-0 a week ago. The team made it three winless games in all competitions (one draw, two defeats), but they stopped that run on Saturday when beating Bahia 2-1 at home. O Timao remains to occupy the fifth spot of the Brasileirao table on 35 points, four above Gremio who aren’t currently qualifying for the next Copa Libertadores. Corinthians are on four away games without a win, drawing three and losing one.
With Corinthians forced to win by 2 goals, plus the altitude factor, I have to expect an open game here. The Brazilians have no choice but to go all-in so there should be goals.
