Nacional (Uruguay) – River Plate (Argentina)
Nacional remain fighting to advance to the Copa Libertadores’ round-of–16. In round three, the team secured a solid 2-1 home success over Venezuelan side Deportivo Tachira to occupy second spot in group H on six points, holding a three-point gap over third-placed Libertad. On Friday, the team managed a 4-2 home win over Racing to remain sitting in second place of the Uruguayan Torneo Apertura table on 25 points in 11 matches, trailing leaders Penarol by four. Nacional won their last five competitive matches and are unbeaten in the last 13 at home (11 victories and two draws since losing to Danubio 3-1 in November 2023).
River Plate are almost through the group stage. Last time out, they managed to beat Libertad 2-1 away in Paraguay, with Pablo Solari and Franco Mastantuono finding the back of the net. El Millonario made it nine points from nine available in the Copa Libertadores and continue to lead group G. In fact, Martin Demichelis’ men won five of their last six matches in all competitions, losing only once in that spell. In fact, River are on three consecutive successes on away turf.
River will advance with a win, Nacional can’t afford a defeat because their last two games of the group are away so I expect an open game here between this solid Nacional and this River that is good in attack but suffers in defense.
