Racing (Uruguay) – Argentinos Jrs (Argentina)

Racing (Uruguay) secured an important point on their visit to Nacional Asuncion two weeks ago, drawing 2-2 away thanks to a strike from Juan Rivero in the 78th minute. El Cervecero made it five points in three Copa Sudamericana games to occupy second spot in group F, trailing leaders Argentinos Juniors by one point. On Friday, they lost 2-1 away at Nacional, which keeps them on seventh spot in the Uruguayan Torneo Apertura table on 15 points after 11 rounds. Eduardo Espinel’s men saw their eight-game unbeaten streak of four victories and four draws in all competitions. In fact, they lost only one of the last six as the hosting side, winning two and drawing three.

Argentinos Juniors celebrated a massive 1-0 home success over Brazil’s Corinthians SC in round three even though coach Pablo Guede fielded an alternative XI, with Gaston Veron scoring the winner. Thanks to that result, El Bicho climbed into first spot of the group F table on six points. A few days later, they lost on penalties following a scoreless stalemate against Velez Sarsfield in the Copa Liga Profesional semi-finals. Argentinos are unbeaten in their last four competitive matches, winning two and drawing two in regular time, and also hold a three-game unbeaten run as the visiting side (two victories and one stalemate).

Just a few weeks ago Racing surprised Argentinos with a 3-0 win at Buenos Aires confirming their solid attacking power: they’ve scored in all 15 games they’ve played so far this year and with a win here they will be top of the group. Argentinos has been quite disappointing lately so I can’t trust them even if they are better than the hosts, but I’ll go for this short totals lines as two goals are definitely possible between them.
