On Saturday, they also beat Sao Paulo 2-0 on the road. As a result, Dorival Junior’s men are now on eight matches unbeaten in all competitions, having won seven and drawn one in that spell. O Rubro Negro are fifth-placed in the Brazilian league table with 36 points after 21 matches. At home, Flamengo also are on eight games without defeat (seven victories and one stalemate since losing to Fortaleza 2-1 in early June.
Corinthians have a mountain to climb in order to advance following their 2-0 home defeat to Flamengo last Tuesday. Furthermore, they had to settle for a 1-1 away draw at Avai last Saturday, which means they remain second-placed in the Brazilian league table on 39 points, but trailing leaders Palmeiras by six at the moment. O Timao have been quite irregular lately, having won two, drawn one and lost two of their last five matches in all competitions. On away turf, Corinthians won only one of their last nine in regular time, drawing three and losing five.
If Corinthians couldn’t even score at home in the 1st leg, I can’t see how they won’t lose here as Flamengo closes the series.
