Cruzeiro (Brazil) vs Boca (Argentina)
Two weeks ago, Cruzeiro produced a sorry performance and ended up losing at Boca Juniors 2-0, which means they will need to take a three-goal lead in order to reach the semi-finals without penalties. Last Sunday, A Raposa fielded an alternative XI and lost at league leaders Palmeiras 3-1. As a result, they are sitting in the seventh spot on 37 points. Cruzeiro claimed a single win in their last five competitive matches (with three defeats in that spell), but they are on four home games unbeaten (that win over Santos 2-1 and three draws).
With Mauro Zarate and Pablo Perez scoring, Boca Juniors took a big step towards the Copa Libertadores’ semi-finals by beating Cruzeiro 2-0 at home. They will return to the top four even losing by a single goal in Belo Horizonte. Last Sunday, El Xeneize beat Colon 3-1 at home with a mixed XI, which allowed them to stop a two-game losing streak (in the Superclasico and the Copa Argentina’s round-of-16 to Gimnasia LP). They are now fifth-placed in the league table on 13 points, six behind leaders Racing Club. Boca claimed seven points from the last nine available on the road, having beaten Argentinos Juniors and Libertad from Paraguay and drawn to Huracan.
No other plan for Cruzeiro but to go all forward to turn around the 0-2 result of the 1st leg and with Boca being a vulnerable team in defense but dangerous in attack, I can expect goals here.
