Argentinos Jrs (Argentina) vs Liverpool (Uruguay)

Argentinos Juniors deserved better luck but had to settle for a scoreless home draw against SC Corinthians last time out. Even though their fans felt frustrated, the team remain as group E leaders on eight points and will clinch their ticket to the Copa Libertadores’ round-of-16 in the event of winning here. Last Friday, El Bicho secured a massive 1-0 home success over Platense in a heated derby, stopping a three-match winless streak of one draw and two defeats in all competitions (and also a negative run of four games without a win at home, drawing two and losing two). They are now in 12th spot of the league table on 26 points in 19 rounds.

Ruben Bentancourt’s goal in the 65th minute gave Liverpool FC a little hope in the Copa Libertadores. Their 1-0 home victory over Independiente del Valle (the first one in this campaign) means the team made it four points in as many matches, still bottom in group E but now trailing their last rivals (who occupy second place) by two. On Friday, El Negriazul made their debut in the Uruguayan Torneo Intermedio by beating Racing 3-2 as hosts. Overall, Liverpool succumbed to a single defeat across their last seven competitive matches, winning four and drawing two. On away turf, they won only one of the last nine, along with four stalemates and four losses.

Argentinos will secure a place in the next round with a win here and could even secure 1st place already depending on the result of the other game of the group, and I can’t imagine them finding trouble against this poor uruguayan team.
