I am sending some early bets for the midweek round of fixtures today in Germany; I am betting all 3 relegation-threatened teams on the handicap as well as the unders in each game. I believe they offer value and with the way the league table is so tight at the bottom, I believe that it will shape the way these matches are played out. Werder Bremen is tied with Fortuna fill the automatic relegation place and the relegation playoff space on 28 points while Mainz is 3 points ahead of both of them on 31 points, the goals difference is Mainz -24, Fortuna -28, Werder Bremen -29 so again all very close. I think the one thing all these sides can’t do against these top teams in midweek, is to take a bad beating in these matches, relegation could come down to goal difference and my reasoning for betting the underdogs and the under goals is I think if these sides find themselves 2-0 down against the sides of the top they won’t chase the game, in fact, they may choose to defend even if losing. I believe they may rather lose 2-0 than try and get back into a game they would have little chance of taking something from as in doing so they would probably leave themselves open at the back and potentially lose by more, thus impacting their goals difference in a negative manner. For this game Bayern Munich, who have the Bundesliga title more or less wrapped, up being 7 points ahead and a much better goal difference with only 3 games left, will face a Werder side who had an excellent win at the weekend beating Paderborn 5-1 win, it was exactly what Werder needed at this stage of the season. It can be argued that Werder has a higher level of motivation for this match despite Bayern needing only a win to win the championship tomorrow night. It is a case Bayern will probably have too much but they themselves but they may be happy with 1 or 2 goal win, they don’t usually play in that manner but a win wins the league and they may be happy at this point of the season to knock it about and take the 3 points and the championship with them from Bremen, so betting Werder +2.25 best odds currently 1.82 and Under 3.5 bets odds currently 1.98.
