Velez Sarsfield is yet to win in this Superliga season. Last time out, the team weren’t able to capitalise their huge level of ball possession and ended up losing 3-1 at Lanus, which means they remain on a single point in three rounds. El Fortin is winless in their last five matches in all competitions, drawing three in regular time and losing two. On a positive note though, Velez is unbeaten in their last five home matches, winning three and drawing two.
Newell’s Old Boys remain perfect after two matches in this league season. Last time out, La Lepra beat Union Santa Fe 2-0 at home thanks to goals from Facundo Nadalin and Lucas Albertengo. With six points, the team have left the relegation zone temporarily (although they trail Rosario Central by one point as they have one match in hand (at Independiente in round two). Newell’s have won four of their last six competitive matches, drawing one and losing one.
Another game that I expect to be more open than what the odds say. Newell’s is in good form and need every point they can get to avoid relegation, while Velez will be eager to get their first win of the season and they are definitely a very good attacking team.
