Velez vs Huracan
Velez Sarsfield played one of their worst games in this competition last weekend and failed to secure the league title as a result of 1-0 away loss at Union Santa Fe. That defeat broke a nine-match unbeaten streak of three victories and six draws in league action. El Fortin remain as Liga Profesional leaders on 48 points (advantaging Talleres by a large goal-difference margin), which means Gustavo Quinteros’ men will become champions in the event of beating Huracan here. Velez have been unbeaten in their last 18 domestic games at home, winning 13 and drawing five. On Wednesday 11, Velez lost 1-0 to CA Central Cordoba in the Copa Argentina final. Emanuel Mammana reached the yellow-card limit and is suspended.
Huracan keep their hope alive and hold a chance of becoming league champions for the first time since 1973. Last Monday, El Globo beat Platense 1-0 at home thanks to a strike from Eric Ramirez in the 78th minute. They stopped a three-game winless run of one draw and two losses to make it 46 points in the Liga Profesional, trailing Velez Sarsfield and Talleres by two. They need to win here and wait for Talleres not to beat Newell’s Old Boys. Otherwise, they will qualify for the 2025 Copa Sudamericana via the aggregate table. On a sorry note, Huracan lost their last two on away turf.
If Velez wins they will be the champions, if Huracan wins they can be champions if Talleres doesn’t win in the other game. To make things more interesting they have a big rivalry so Huracan for sure wants to ruin Velez’ chances. Whatever happens one thing for sure is that they can’t speculate and if Talleres scores in the other game they will have to take risks here, so I’ll go for the OVER as one goal should definitely open things up.
