Talleres vs Newell’s

Talleres will face one of their most important games in history on Sunday as they hold a big chance of becoming league champions after beating Gimnasia LP 1-0 away last weekend. La T extended their winning streak to five matches in this competition to level Velez Sarsfield at the top of the Liga Profesional table on 48 points. Second-placed due to the goal difference, they need to win and wait for Velez’s result to celebrate their first league title. In addition, Alexander Medina’s men secured their ticket to the 2025 Copa Libertadores. Talleres won 11 and drew six of their last 18 at home in domestic action, losing only once in that time.

Newell’s Old Boys fans are just waiting for the season to end. Last Sunday, the team showed a terrible performance and succumbed to a 1-0 home defeat to Boca Juniors in an uneventful game. La Lepra remain on 25 points in the Liga Profesional, just three above bottom-placed Barracas Central, which places them already out of the fight for the continental tickets after losing six of their last nine in this competition (one victory and two draws). If Talleres wins and Velez doesn’t, they will win their first championship ever so the motivation is huge to win here. They won’t have Botta and Galarza, two important players, but they will face this terrible Newell’s that barely cares about this match and won’t have some very important players, so I have to expect nothing but an easy home win.
