Velez vs Atletico Tucuman
Velez Sarsfield secured a valuable point last Saturday, when they registered a 1-1 away draw at Defensa y Justicia with Nicolas Garayalde netting the equaliser in the 90th minute. However, the team are producing an irregular campaign, accumulating five points in as many games in the Liga Profesional after recording one victory, two draws and two defeats. As a result, they continue out of the continental places in the aggregate table so far. At home, El Fortin lost to Platense and beat Rosario Central in this competition.
Atletico Tucuman settled for a 1-1 home draw against Godoy Cruz in a heated six-pointer regarding relegation last Monday. Lucas Pusineri’s men extended their unbeaten streak to eight league games (two victories and six stalemates) and made it seven points in the Liga Profesional to hold onto their three-gap over the drop zone in the respective table. On a sorry note, El Decano are winless in their last 17 away games, having drawn seven and lost ten in that spell. Carlos Lampe and Augusto Lotti are set to return after missing the last game.
Velez had a very solid performance midweek to beat River 1-0 in the Copa Libertadores Round of 16, but that series is of course far from over and they will play again in a few days, so it’s expected that they will rest most regulars here and Atletico could continue their unbeaten run.
