Tigre vs Velez
Tigre are getting worse match after match in the league. Last time out, they were unable to create goalscoring chances and ended up losing 1-0 away at relegation candidates Platense. The side made it seven matches without a win in this competition, drawing three and losing four, and dropped down to the 20th place of the Liga Profesional table on 22 points, just four above the relegation spot, shared by Velez Sarsfield, Huracan and Banfield. Following this terrible form, coach Diego Martinez left the club. At home, Tigre secured two points from the last nine on offer in domestic action. New coach Juan Manuel Sara will make his debut on Thursday. Striker Mateo Retegui returns after his international duty with Italy’s national team.
Velez Sarsfield continue finding big trouble in the league. Last Saturday, the team succumbed to a controversial 2-1 away defeat at Racing Club under interim coach Marcelo Bravo, claiming two penalties that weren’t awarded. That result means El Fortin made it 12 league games without a win, drawing six and losing six in that time. The side remain sharing the relegation spot in the Liga Profesional table with Huracan and Banfield, accumulating 18 points. On away turf, Velez are on six winless games, having picked up only one point from 18 available in that stretch.
Two of the biggest disappointments of the season meet here and while I don’t trust either of them, I think we can see an open game with at least a couple of goals given their poor defenses but decent attacks.
