San Lorenzo vs Sarmiento
San Lorenzo continue to find trouble in the Copa Liga Profesional. Last Saturday, they showed another worrying performance and will have to feel lucky after securing a scoreless away draw at Platense. After an excellent campaign in 2023, El Ciclon have now claimed a single victory in nine league games this term, along with six draws and two losses, which means just nine points (with one match in hand). Five of those points were taken at Estadio Pedro Bidegain as San Lorenzo won one, drew two and lost one.
Sarmiento are starting to show improvements since coach Israel Damonte’s return to the club. Last time out, the side reversed the score to secure a massive 3-1 home victory over Estudiantes. That result means El Verde are on two consecutive successes in the Copa Liga Profesional to continue escaping relegation danger, accumulating nine points to lead bottom-placed Tigre and Atletico Tucuman by four in the aggregate table. Sarmiento won 1-0 away at Racing Club to break a five-match winless streak of two draws and three losses on the road. Striker Ivan Morales will miss out again.
San Lorenzo are desperate for wins even if they have no chance to get into the playoffs, but for a big club this is a very poor season and there are rumours about a potential coach change after two years. They can’t find a better spot than to play at home vs one of the worst teams in the league that has 15 goals conceded and a very poor away record.
