San Lorenzo – Velez
San Lorenzo delivered a decent performance in their visit to Newell’s Old Boys last weekend, proving to be the better side in what was a very poor match overall, but ultimately had to settle for a goalless draw. As a result, they missed another opportunity to break into the playoff qualification zone in Group A of the Torneo Apertura. They have now won just one of their last seven league matches —five draws and one defeat— and sit on 18 points, just behind eighth place (held by Independiente) by goal difference. At home, however, they have been more reliable, losing just one of their last five league matches —with three wins and one draw—. Before returning to domestic action, they won 2-0 at home over Deportivo Cuenca on Thursday, April 16 in the second round of the Copa Sudamericana group stage.
Vélez Sarsfield returned to their usual level on Monday night, as they secured a 1-0 home win over Central Córdoba thanks to a first-half goal from Joaquín García, in a match where the margin could have been wider. With that result, El Fortín bounced back from two consecutive league defeats and remained at the top of Group A in the Torneo Apertura with 25 points, now just one win away from securing their place in the playoffs. On the road in league play, they have also been consistent overall. In fact, their only defeat as visitors this season came two weeks ago —a 3-2 loss to Gimnasia Mendoza— after a run of three wins and three draws.
San Lorenzo are almost in a must win situation if they want to get into the playoffs, they come from a few good performances and have to face this solid Velez team. The hosts should take some risks at some point of the game so this very short totals line looks good for the OVER.
