Rosario Central vs Racing
Rosario Central took another step toward a new league title—after winning the overall standings title in 2025 and the Copa de la Liga Profesional in 2023—on Sunday afternoon, when they recovered from an early deficit to defeat Club Atlético Independiente 3-1 at home and advance to the quarterfinals of the Torneo Apertura. El Canalla extended their unbeaten run in this competition to four matches (three wins and one draw) and are now unbeaten in five straight league games at home, recording four victories and one draw during that span.
Racing Club, who finished eighth in Group B, produced another of last weekend’s biggest surprises: thanks to a goal from Santiago Sosa in the 89th minute, they defeated Estudiantes 1-0 on the road, knocking out the winners of Group A. As a result, the side coached by Gustavo Costas remain in contention for a new league title, something they have not achieved since 2019. La Academia also snapped a five-match winless streak in league play (three draws and two defeats). Racing have been strong on the road as well, suffering just one defeat in their last eight matches in the Torneo Apertura (four wins and three draws).
Racing beat Estudiantes with a late goal after the hosts had the best chances of the game. I don’t expect them to be that lucky here at Rosario where the hosts are very strong and should beat them to advance to the semifinals.
